Questions

When should a puppy get its first vaccine in India?

At 6 to 8 weeks of age, then every 2 to 4 weeks until 16 weeks or older, with a booster at 26 weeks. Your vet may adjust this for your puppy.

When is the first rabies vaccine given?

Usually at 12 weeks, with a second dose one year later. Rabies is common in India, so every dog and cat should be vaccinated. Many rabies vaccines sold in India are labelled for a yearly booster.

Does my cat need a leptospirosis vaccine?

No. Leptospirosis vaccines are for dogs. Cats get the tricat (FVRCP) vaccine and rabies.

My pet is older and never vaccinated. What now?

An adult dog or cat usually needs two doses of the core vaccine 2 to 4 weeks apart, plus rabies. Ask your vet to plan it.

Is this a substitute for my vet's advice?

No. It follows the WSAVA 2024 guidelines in general terms. Your vet decides which vaccines and brands suit your pet, its health and where you live.
